The Eucharist in Scripture series is now posted. This include more than 60 scripture references on the Eucharist. There are seven pages of Scriptures references, three for the Old Testament and four for the New Testament. Each reveals something different about the Sacrament of Christ’s Love, and together, they tell the love of story of God’s relationship with us.
The Eucharist reveals so much of our faith. It is the source and summit of everything in our faith, since it is truly the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus. When we receive the Eucharist, we hold the Son of God in our hands and take Him into our bodies and souls. We cannot even begin to appreciate the depth of God’s love that would prompt such a gift.
The Scripture passages are great to read and meditate on. Lectio Divina is a wonderful tool for this. Reading and rereading the passages reveals more and more depth. There is one question that makes a good place to start: Why would God do this? The answer is incredible simple and can be stated in a single word, and yet is infinitely deep in its richness, so deep that this answer will provide an eternity of beautiful and joyous contemplation.
Love. It is the infinite love that God has for each of us, individually, that led to our individual creation and invitation for union with Him through the Eucharist. The Eucharist is a gift to the Church and to humanity, but it is much more an intimate gift of love and union offered to you individually. The story of the Eucharist through Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, is the story of God’s love for you personally.
